A Flat Tire

Yesterday's weather was showers and more showers and rain. We had a high of 23.5C (humidex 31C) and 2.9" of rain which I don't think is correct. I don't know as the rain gauge is in the shed. This morning it is 16C. Today is it suppose to be a mix of sun and clouds and a high of 21C (humidex 26C). We are to have rain tonight and are under wind and tropical storm warning now.

Lifestyle

Everything went well in the morning and I got Elliott into the carrier with no issues. I put him in the car and left for the vet. The car sounded funny and I parked it off the driveway and checked the front passenger tire -- flat as can be. It was the one that was low on Wednesday.

I called CAA, the vet, family, and got overwhelmed. Son came to be of assistance and we watched the tow truck driver put air in the tire unsuccessfully. It was coming out of the nail hole as fast as it was going in. His little compressor smoked and died a terrible death. He put a screw in the hole and got another compressor out and filled the tire. Son drove the car to the tire shop and I drove his truck. The shop fixed the tire right away for me. I have to have the tire torqued next week.

I came home to one grouchy cat. His sleep had been disturbed and he blamed me. His appointment was cancelled and he goes in next Thursday. He was somewhat happier when he got his treats for lunch.

After lunch I took the bottles into the return depot and came home. I could have slept the afternoon away but I made myself get up and move. What happened was over and done with and it was time to move on. Late afternoon I parked the car in the garage. It won't be parked outside until after the storm is over.

Sewing

I spent time in the sewing room working on the top. I hand basted the neck and arms before pressing. I sewed up the side seams and pressed them open making sure everything was pressed flat. Hem was done and hand basted prior to pressing. Back seams were serged and the thread ends tucked in neatly. Then it was fitting time. I knew it would be big in the back and was able to turn under 3/8" and sew it down. I put snaps on the back.

While putting the snaps on the back I had 2 issues. The first was when one snap fell on the floor and rolled. I was down on my hands and knees looking for it. I did clean the threads up around the garbage can and found 6 pins. I next cleaned the threads out of the castors on the chair. Then I found the snap.  The second issue was I had put the wrong snap piece on the one side and had to redo it. A few choice words later, all the snaps were on and the top pressed.

I love the neckline on this top. It fits beautifully and sews up nicely. I may even make the dress version. It has a gathered skirt with little horizontal growth pleats.

The skirt is on the sewing machine cabinet ready to start sewing. It is going to be a simple skirt as the jean jacket is the star of the show.

When I went to press the label I made, the iron spit on it. I was up the stairs to do the Dawn soap treatment. I left it for almost 2 hours and all is good. I descaled the iron and my ironing board got really wet. I had to press using the sleeve board. I use it frequently when pressing doll clothes. I am hoping that I have the spitting problem fixed as I had left the iron to get really hot before using it.

I have been texting daughter helping her as she sewed a lined jacket. She had never sewn a lined jacket. She chose a pattern I had made 3 times so it was easy to help her. She was successful as she followed all the tips I gave her. This prompted me to watch a few videos on lining items. I picked up a couple of ideas I want to try on doll clothes.

Knitting

I worked on the doll's coat last night. I took it back to row 13 as I got confused. I reset the pockets and pinned them in place. When that was done, I knit 10 rows. I have another 20 rows to knit before I add the sleeves. This is the boring part as you knit the front borders and do plain knitting in between.

Thoughts

I tried to be independent with the flat tire. I overwhelmed myself by trying to talk/text way to many people at one time. I will do less next time I have an incident. I know I can do it alone as I have CAA who will help me out.

I have been worrying about the storm we are going to get. I am glad I am ready. But I also think it is the timing of this storm that is mentally affecting me. 51 weeks ago yesterday the Spousal Unit passed away and 51 weeks ago today Fiona hit us hard. I have a feeling this coming week is going to be a hard one for me. I need to remind myself to be strong.

When I took the 3 bags of bottles to the depot, the service I got was A++. An employee took the bags into the shop for me and sorted them immediately. I didn't have to wait at all. I got my money and was out of the shop in less than 15 minutes. It was busy in there and everyone was working as fast as they could to give excellent service.

Today

My goal today is to do housework this morning, sew this afternoon, and knit tonight. I don't plan on going out unless it is to deliver the label to my friend. I have to make sure all the windows are locked correctly and the flashlight is on the table. Then I can hunker down.

Until the next time................................................................

I hope the storm passes you by - you have already been through one of the worst personal storms there is in life.
