Weeding Has Begun

Yesterday was sunny with a high of 11C. This morning it is foggy, drizzling rain, and 5C. Today is supposed to be bit of everything; rain, sunshine, wind, and possibly thunder. The high is to get to 14C.

Lifestyle

Yesterday morning we left a bit earlier than thought and was in the city earlier. It was nice as the two stores we went into were not busy. The first store we got a bunch of items for sandwich making and some for family. In the second store we more for family but found one item for sandwich making on at a great price.

While in the second store, daughter-in-law and I shared pushing the cart. She is trying to walk longer without the cane so pushing the cart when she was tired gives her relief. I can walk without the cart for longer than her before my muscles hurt. We stopped in the store at a pillar and did some stretching exercises. Good thing it wasn't busy and in actual fact no one saw us.

We had to be home before 11:30 am as grandson had to be picked up from school. We did well. Supplies unloaded and put away at the community hall, groceries unloaded at family's and me taken home.

After lunch, I went out and decided to start cleaning up around the shed. I took my stuff in a big bucket and got started. I pruned the rose bush and pulled weeds from the back of the shed. I even talked to my neighbours across the road for a few minutes.

The grass is long and I was not enjoying it but I pushed on. Next up was half of the side. I pulled weeds and had a short visit with grandson. He brought my egg cooker to me and headed right home to study. When I finished that piece I got out the solar lights and put them in place. I am going to buy 2 more of them next week.

I then did the other half of the shed and got the pot in place. I will probably replace it as it has a crack in it.

I also did a small piece you can't see and was very happy it was done. I looked in the shed and saw I had 3 big bags of soil so I can start filling pots next week. I took my bucket of weeds and headed into the house. I needed a rest as I was sore.

I had rest only a short time when I heard a noise in the yard. I looked out and the lawn was being mowed. I talked to the person to let him know I would pay him next week and we also discussed the hedge which he will do. The lawn looks amazing now that it is cut. It is thick and lush.

I headed into town to get the money for lawn mowing. Next to the bank is a lovely display of tulips. The picture I took doesn't do it justice but I couldn't get closer as the street has a lot of cars parked on it.

It was so cheerful to look at reminding us that spring has arrived.

I went to the Dollar store to look for a trellis for tomatoes on the deck. People were talking in the store about deer destroying their yard last summer and winter. We got to talking about what to do. One of the employees stated that the deer in the next community ate her mom's marigolds last summer. They are really desensitized. One couple who lives near me is going to get the deer deterrent that I use. It is working so far for me. I have been doing a light spray on my plants every night unless it is raining. I found a trellis I liked but it was broken. I will look next week in another Dollar store.

I didn't sew yesterday as I was busy until late afternoon and then had to cook dinner. But, I was in a good mood even though I was tired and a bit sore. I did crack my SI joint back in when I went to bed. It wasn't out as bad as before but it was out some. Hopefully moving around like I have been will make that area stronger and the joint will stay in more than it has been.

Knitting

I did knit last night and got 22 rounds done on the foot of the sock. I am almost half done that part.

I would love to have the socks done next weekend. Then I can start on the blue ones. The second ball of yarn for them (plus 2 balls of teal yarn) are on their way. I should have them next week.

Thoughts

It felt good being outside working in the yard yesterday. I relaxed and enjoyed it thinking about what flowers I want to buy. I also thought about the hedge and am going to try to weed some of it after I finish weeding around the house. I would like to get grandson for 1 or 2 days to help me put river rock in the beds. I am also going to start weeding under the hedge doing some each morning I can. I would like to have most of it done before we start on the edging.

I have been watching the weather and will have to cover the marigolds for 2 nights as we will be close to having frost. I am prepared for that and will cover them with blankets, bath mats, etc. that we used in past years. I am getting excited to see if I can keep the deer from eating the plants this summer.

I stated the rhododendrons are in bloom. They aren't. It is the azaleas that are in bloom. Both blooms are similar in colour but the azalea blooms are smaller. The rhododendrons are in bud and will bloom in the next couple of weeks.

My biggest laugh of the day was watching two boys across the street. One was working on cutting their lawn really short (scarifying) and the other was visiting. When I watched their antics, the visiting boy landed in the garbage can and the fun began. Those boys had a great time goofing around. The lawn did get done later on.

Today

I am busy this morning preparing potato salad and devilled eggs for dinner tomorrow night. I also have to cook supper for me to heat later on. I would like to sew today even if it is just cutting out some patterns for hand stitching lace down. I will knit tonight.

Until the next time.........................................................................
