Avon River Days Parade

The weather has been hot and humid and will continue to be. We said no rain yesterday as predicted but it came with a vengeance. Torrential rain was predicted and we got it.

Lifestyle

Yesterday morning the Spousal Unit was out to look at the antique tractors that will be in the tractor pull. Grandson and Son had the opportunity to start an old motor. They seemed to have a good time.
At noon, we packed our sandwiches and headed out to the parade. We parked at the beginning of the route and watched while we sat on a stone wall.
The antique tractors went out first and puttered down the route.

Three of the dozen tractors which took part in the parade. When the tractors went by, there was a long line up of cars behind and one boy of about 7-8 years old announced the parade was over. He was told to wait as the parade would start in 5 minutes. And it did.
The parade was led by the town crier and the mayor of Windsor. No pictures of him but he is the same person who opened the parade at the July 1 parade in Hantsport. We admire this man who walks the couple of miles in his crier outfit in 31-32C temperatures.
My favorite foot was the Early Pioneer float that honors the Acadians.

The Acadians were the first settlers in the area and built a lot of the dykes. They were chased out in the mid 1700's and it was described as ethnic cleansing which it wasn't. It was meant to get rid of the Catholic faith in Nova Scotia. A lot has been done to restore Acadian land and history in the area (Grande Pre is one well know historical site in our area).
A lot of the floats were fun. These two show the humor in the area.

The next parade will be held mid October to celebrate the Pumpkin Regatta.
After the parade was over, we hung out at home as it was hot -- 32C to be exact. Too hot to do much of anything. Before 4 p.m., it turned dark and we heard a lot of thunder. At about 4 p.m., it started to rain and the clouds opened up and we got the torrential rains that were forecasted. In 15-20 minutes we got a lot of rain.

The ditch was running good and we were so happy to see the rain. We really did need it. Forty-five minutes later we had this much rain.
At 8:30 a.m. we are have had 1.5" of rain. It is still raining but with less intensity than we saw earlier this morning.
Tractor pulls are to start this morning and we will take a drive to see if it is happening. I doubt if we will go unless it stops raining. Which it should be according to the weather forecast.

Sewing

While I was alone in the morning, I finished the test pattern. This is what I am going to show you until the pattern is released.
The pattern is cute and well designed. The rest of the blue print is going to be made into another dress for Anna and a blue blouse to go with it. I have to sew t-shirts first and then onto another fun outfit for the dolls.

Today

What we will do today is a mystery. It all depends on the weather. We will head out about 10 a.m. to see if the tractor pull is on. If it isn't, I'm going to be in the sewing room for the day.
Until the next time............................
