Yesterday was a mix of sun and clouds with a high of 18C. This morning is sunny and 17C. Today is supposed to be sunny with a high of 22C.
Yesterday morning we headed out for a walk to the Market. We headed down the street to the Rambla and walked along it stopping to rest as necessary. It was a gorgeous walk. We stopped to look at a small market that was near the water but it hadn't opened yet. At that point we crossed the street and headed uphill to the big market.
On our way up we stopped to watch some men deliver a big item to an apartment. It was being pulled up by ropes. One man on the sidewalk and two men on the balcony. They were pulling the item up about 6-8 floors. This item looked about the size of a small couch.
The walk up the hill was steep but we made it to the market with a couple of stops. The first part was clothing, baby items, lamp shades, mate gourds, tiny wood fired bbqs and jewelry. We then walked up another level to the produce, meat, and cheeses. Our first part was wandering around looking at prices and quality.
Daughter-in-law is buying cherry tomatoes. She also bought strawberries at this stall. It was very busy there and I stood off to the side as I had my hiking poles.
At another stall she bought mandarin oranges. Six of them cost $1.00 CDN. They are very sweet and juicy.
It was interesting to watch people buying what they needed for a few days. They got vegetables, fruit, cheese, and meat in small quantities knowing the market is open again on Tuesdays and Saturdays.
Once done at the market, we walked to a restaurant near the market. We sat outdoors to eat. Daughter-in-law had tortellini with a tomato sauce. It was very tasty.Son and I had a chicken cutlet with ham and cheese on it. It too was delicious. The portions were huge and we took home half of it for another meal.
The walk home was through a more residential area until we got closer to the apartment. There was a quick stop at a pastry shop where they sell both savoury and sweet pastries. Once we got closer to the apartment I started to recognize places. We got home mid afternoon and rested.
At 7 pm we headed out to grandson's football game. Where they played is next to the stadium we watched the game on Sunday night. There was security at this game but not like at the other game.
Grandson's team played well and at the end of the first half they had one goal and the other team none. About 10-20 seconds into the 2nd half grandson's team scored their 2nd goal. Not too long after that they scored a third goal. At that point grandson was subbed onto the field.
He played very strong and almost made a goal on his own. His team scored once more and won the game 4-0. We talked to him briefly at the end of the game and he was excited and wanted to play more minutes. We got home after 10 pm and were cold. It took me quite a while to warm up so I didn't sleep as well as I had wanted but it was adequate. My hip hasn't hurt as much but my bruises certainly do. They are slowly healing.
I am not sure what we are doing today. So far it has been a slow start as we all slept in. I was up first to take my medication and daughter-in-law just woke up. There was talk of walking on the beach to the big Montevideo sign. The water is sparkling in the sun at the moment. Other than that I am not sure what will happen.
Until the next time.......................................................................
