Two Outdoor Projects Completed

Yesterday was warm and sunny with a high of 21.6C. This morning it is clear and 7C. We are to have another sunny day with a high of 23C.

Lifestyle

I had a different day yesterday. Mid morning I went to New Minas with my friend. I looked around at the two quilt shops and bought nothing. We got home at noon. It was a nice outing as I saw a few things I may buy when I go back to shop.

The better part of the afternoon was spent outside. My goal was to weed around the shed and get it set up for summer. I worked hard at getting it done with one break. I am pleased with the results and the weeds are gone.

I am thinking of yellow flowers in the pots this year. I will add another colour for filler. I can't put the flowers out yet as we can still get frost.

Daughter-in-law came over (my break) and brought items for the yard sale. We did some arranging and talked for a few minutes. She had to leave as the landscaper needed questions answered.

Once I was done, I had a short rest and rehydrated. I then did a few things in the house; recycling out into their proper bags to go out tonight. I also made sure everything was tidy before dinner as I was going to relax all evening.

Relax I didn't. My friends came over and before I could blink an eye, family was here. They worked very, very hard and got under the deck finished. My job was to provide drinks and popsicles and do the clean up. Grandson and the youngest boy pushed wheel barrows of pea gravel up hill to put under the deck. Daughter-in law and the oldest boy shovelled pea gravel into the wheel barrows. Our friend and son worked under the deck laying weed cloth, doing the edging and raking the pea gravel. I am so grateful for the work they did. It looks really nice under there and is exactly how I wanted it (as did the Spousal Unit). Pictures will be tomorrow.

We ended the evening visiting in the enclosed deck area at our friends. We had a great time laughing and talking about the future plans of the deck area. Wood stove and winter covering are going to happen. We admired the bar that was built from the garden shed that blew over in a windstorm and was destroyed. It was a wonderful ending to our busy evening.

Sewing

I wandered into the sewing room just after breakfast and finished the shoes. They are now ready for me to embellish.

I also starched the fabric for the quilt I started. I can now press it and continue working on it.

Knitting

I knit once I got home and finished the gusset on the 2nd sock.

Next up is the foot section. I am making good progress on them.

Thoughts

With under the deck completed, the next project will be the hedge. I will start hand weeding it after I weed around the house. As I weed, I will pull the weed cloth up with hopes of planting grass seed under there. The hedge needs to be trimmed also which I may try to do.

With the nice weather holding for the next week, I have built a plan for yard work. I can only do so much each day due to my muscles rebelling from me getting up and down. I want it done so I can go into maintain mode for the summer.

I have been following my eating regime and cutting out a lot of the refined sugars I was gravitating towards. That meant no dinners to go. That meant less fats in my diet. I have lost 2.5 lbs since I started doing this. I do feel much better eating foods I know that are much more healthy. I still have 5 lbs to loose but know it will come off. Then to work on maintaining that weight.

The solar lights are really bright at the shed. I was amazed at how they lit up that area.

Today

I am heading out early this morning to weed around the house. I have about as many weeds to pull as around the shed. I also need to move bricks back under the shed until we can use them somewhere. I also need to spray weeds in the ditch. This afternoon I want to sew and tonight I will quilt. I am not sure if family will be over tonight with items for the yard sale.

Until the next time..........................................................
