Progress On The Quilt

Yesterday was mainly cloudy with a high of 29C (humidex 33C). This morning it is mainly clear and 20C. Today is to be a mix of sun and clouds with a high of 30C (humidex 37C).

Lifestyle

My few chores ended up putting my breakfast dishes into the dishwasher and making sure the kitchen was clean. Daughter-in-law had invited me to go to New Minas with her at noon.

Our trip to New Minas was fun. We went into the Dollarama first. I bought rice crackers, a small container, and air freshener. Our next stop was at Giant Tiger. I got more food items and a hoodie. All food items were cheaper than at the grocery store. We were both happy as we are looking, once again, at buying cheaper groceries.

I watered the plants on the deck before dinner and sprayed deer deterrent on plants in the vegetable boxes and in the front of the house. The deer do not like it though I keep wondering when the day comes when they will eat the plants that are sprayed. Interestingly enough, they haven't touched the plants at the front of the house since I started spraying them.

Sewing

I spent quite a bit of time sewing on the quilt. I played with the doll's version of the quilt and it will be 9 patches only. I did sew 2 together and laid the 3rd one underneath to see how it will look.

I then set about cutting more strips and sewing them together. Then came cutting them apart and sewing the small pieces together to make 9 patches. I got the rest of the 9 patches made for my quilt and 3 more for the doll's quilt.

I had some strips cut and decided to cut them into the sizes required to border 2 of the 9 patches.

Happy with how these two looked, I cut more white squares and blue rectangles. I have enough cut to finish 7 more blocks.

When they are done, I have 9 more blocks to cut the pieces for and sew them on. The hardest part will be done.

I am going to say that I have enjoyed making the blocks. I have worked hard at making sure all the points are matching on the 9 patches and that the points are matching when adding the borders. The easies part is pressing. I pressed towards the dark fabrics and don't have to worry that I will have to press seams in the opposite direction when I sew them together. I will have to make sure I pay attention when pressing the seams when I do the rows so the seams are going in opposite directions.

Knitting

I finished knitting the socks last night.

I now have to wind yarn to start on the next pair. They are more autumn colours for daughter-in-law.

Thoughts

I did well being out in the warm humid weather yesterday. As long as I pace myself I can handle it. I find if I move more slowly I do better. What I find hard is sleeping at night in a warm room. I am doing better as I have a fan blowing over me. This heat wave will be over tonight and we will have some relief for a few days.

Grandson sent pictures of the market they went to. It was full fresh fruit and vegetables and I am sure they bought some fresh fruit to eat. They also went to a cafe to watch a very intense game of soccer not far from where they are staying. They sent a video in which you can hear the spectators doing their chants. It is great to see pictures and hear about their evening outings.

Today

I have to be out this morning for a bit and then hope to start scrubbing the bathroom. I want to sew this afternoon and knit tonight. I also have to water all the containers and boxes today.

Until the next time...........................................................
