Just a quick update as I have to head out to work in a bit.
The infinity scarf I made is up in the store and it looks good.
I call this the Edmonton Oiler's scarf as it is in their team colours. I still have two more to make.
I have also chosen my next store project and am happy with how I will do it. More on that later.

Doll Stash is Sorted and Stored
Wednesday was grey in the morning when I left for work and dark when I arrived home. It was exactly how I felt all day long. On Thursday and Friday there was sunshine and, though I am tired, I felt somewhat better.
The kitchen floor tiles are done. When I got home Wednesday, Chinese food was on the table, the stove, beverage fridge, and dishwasher in the dining room.
Yesterday, the stove was put back into place after I scrubbed the opening and the stove.
The other end of the kitchen is still a disaster and leaves me stressed out.
It will be nice to have the house done in two to three weeks. There is dust everywhere and I need to scrub the upstairs once again after the mudding is done. Hopefully mid February when I have three days off. Even the Spousal Unit is ready to have the house back.
Though we will get an evaluation done, we may not sell it right away and enjoy it. The only reason we'd sell is if we get more than we want and can get something that needs little to no renovations. At this point, I doubt if we will even rent the basement suite out and have our home to ourselves. I have a plan evolving in my head.
I have this much flannel and light weight fleece to make pyjamas and house coats for the dolls.
I'll spend some quality time sewing it up in the near future. I am hoping that I have enough lace to do this lot of pyjamas. The doll patterns are in one spot ready to be filed. It will be easy to do as I have the file folders. Next on the list is to sort the garment fabric and my patterns.
I set up my cutting table and traced and cut out 2 pairs of pyjama bottoms for grandson. I started tracing the coat pattern for the store project. Though I only got 2 pieces traced, I can now do the rest of the pattern pieces over the next week. I do love having the cutting table set up.
By the time I finish tracing the coat pieces, I will have run out of what I use and will be looking at buying something new. I am thinking Swedish tracing paper from Amazon.
Time to review my goals:

Lifestyle
The guys arrived to work on the house and the living room looks like it has a disease. The walls have huge mud patches on them. The previous paint job was horrid as they didn't use a lintless roller and used cheap paint. The walls are ready to paint though they will be covered in plastic so the ceiling can be painted first. The kitchen floor tiles are done. When I got home Wednesday, Chinese food was on the table, the stove, beverage fridge, and dishwasher in the dining room.

Sewing
I spent some time and finished sorting and organizing the doll's stash. It is now in the sewing room closet.I have this much flannel and light weight fleece to make pyjamas and house coats for the dolls.
I'll spend some quality time sewing it up in the near future. I am hoping that I have enough lace to do this lot of pyjamas. The doll patterns are in one spot ready to be filed. It will be easy to do as I have the file folders. Next on the list is to sort the garment fabric and my patterns.

By the time I finish tracing the coat pieces, I will have run out of what I use and will be looking at buying something new. I am thinking Swedish tracing paper from Amazon.
Time to review my goals:
- Cut out the second pair of doll jeans
Work on my quilt block for the store- Trace a coat pattern to cut out my February sewing project/challenge to be hung in the store in mid March. Started and hopefully worked on this week.
Sort through the cottons and put together like projects for sewing- Work on the lobster fabric items. I may focus on cutting out all the pieces and sew them up rather than do one item at a time. The bibs all have the vinyl ironed onto them and are ready to be cut out.
Trace and cut out Grandson's pyjamas.
- Sorted the doll's stash and put it away.
- Put the doll clothes patterns together ready to file in their file folders.
- Made an infinity scarf using up .5 meter of fabric and .5 meter of lace in the stash. I had to buy .5 meter of fabric and 2 meters of lace (used .5 meter for the scarf and rest is in the doll's stash. Cost for 2 meters of lace was $.99).
- Piled up the doll's pyjama and house coat fabric ready to cut and sew. I may do a pair when I sew Grandson's pyjamas.
Knitting
I haven't knit a stitch since Wednesday morning. I have read and slept in the evenings.Today
I work the early shift and I would love to trace at least one pattern piece when I get home.Until the next time.............................

Sorting The Stash Begun
We have had some mild weather and there has been sunshine. This morning the temperature is 0C or 32F. The temperature is to hover between -3C and 3C. Not bad for the end of January.
The doors are on the new kitchen cabinets but the drawer and sink faces needed to be redone. They didn't match the other drawers. A lot of little things were done (thermostat screwed onto the wall for example) that I can't keep up with. Still a fair amount to do though.
The Spousal Unit had a visitor yesterday and will have one every Monday. I use to do reading with their daughter when in Ashcroft. She comes in every Monday now for help and Dad will visit while waiting for her. The Spousal Unit so enjoyed it and was in great form when I got home last night.
Next I found the fabric for two infinity scarves. One for me, one for Daughter-in-Law (of which needs the second colour to go with it). There is fabric for another scarf which may end up being an infinity scarf though I am leaning towards a square. I could have an infinity scarf making day which just might happen on these next days off.
The doll's stuff got looked at next. I am sorting patterns into keep and donate. It will take me some time as I have the patterns in a couple of places and want to file them in their own filing system. I also started on the fabric that was near the ironing board. I got some done prior to leaving for work. A bit hit the trash, some to the thrift shop, and the rest is keep. There is a lot of flannel for pyjamas and I will have to buy the lace trim for them while it is on sale.
I walked out of the room feeling quite happy with what I had accomplished.
Until the next time.................................
Lifestyle
Yesterday was Dirty Day #1 for the kitchen and living room. Adam sanded the floor in preparation for the tile and there is grey dust (cement) on everything. I wiped up a lot of it but won't finish until the tile is down. Abe is mudding the living room and has the first coat on. Now comes the sanding. The doors are on the new kitchen cabinets but the drawer and sink faces needed to be redone. They didn't match the other drawers. A lot of little things were done (thermostat screwed onto the wall for example) that I can't keep up with. Still a fair amount to do though.

Sewing
I spent 90 minutes in the mess before going to work. It was almost too confusing to start so I put away the embroidery thread I had used on the quilt block. Then I handled some fabric for the guest room. It will be a bed runner and pillow cases. I also added some yellow flannel to make more pillow cases if there is enough. If not, it will go into the doll's fabric.Next I found the fabric for two infinity scarves. One for me, one for Daughter-in-Law (of which needs the second colour to go with it). There is fabric for another scarf which may end up being an infinity scarf though I am leaning towards a square. Knitting
The second sock is set up and two rows successfully knit. I'm not pushing it too hard as I don't want mistakes.Today
I work until 6:15 and it leaves no time to do much in the evening. I am doing it 4 days (Sunday to Wednesday) this week and knew what I was taking on. I am also tired as our orders arrived and I am hustling to get it out on the floor. I will be doing that again today.Until the next time.................................

Happy Moments
After a few days of warmer weather, it is cooling off again to be near the freezing mark. It was certainly nice to have the warm weather and sunshine. Yesterday we had a small snow flurry but it didn't amount to anything. Today it could be snow or rain.
Who would get excited about having a slide out garbage can and slide out shelf under the kitchen sink? ME! It is in and I love it. I have to get the slide out towel bar and that area will be done. The cupboard doors are here but need to go and have the holes drilled in for the hinges. That will happen next week. The HDMI cords are in the walls so the TV can be hung with no wires showing. It has made me happy before the next mess starts. I will stress out again but am enjoying this happy time.
The left over fabric is also at the store in the share basket and I am happy to see this project done.
I found the tub of Halloween cottons and put them into the sewing room closet. I will be making a few items for them over the next two years and then will stop as they will have enough items to decorate with.
I am thinking about digging out the doll fabric tubs and sorting through them. My plan is to get rid of the fabric/notions that I won't use. Those tubs can be stored on the floor in the sewing room closet. I'd like to reclaim one of the tubs to put the finished doll clothes into. While focusing on the doll fabric, I would like to organize their patterns. It has been started but I need more file folders of a certain type to finish the job. BTW, they are calling for me to work on their SWAP.
Time to review my goals:
I found a notebook that I can carry around with me. It is my everything notebook. I have put a project on a page and what I need to finish it up. That way, when I get out the fabric, I can look in the book and move forward. This way, I won't make senseless purchases.

Getting My Thoughts Together
We had a warm day yesterday with a high of 7.2C or 45F. The sun shone and it looked very nice outside. We have a few days of cloudy weather now but the temperatures will be warm.
The Spousal Unit has been removing the hardwood floor where the kitchen tile will go and he got it done. Adam has to do the last board prior to them taking up the subfloor on the other part of the kitchen. We cleaned up the living room, I washed the floors and we laid plastic in preparation for work to begin in there. I did snap about the mess on Tuesday but it didn't help at all; I continued to feel stressed. I know it happens but I hate the mess.
On an upbeat note, the kitchen cabinet doors we need are done and will be ready to pick up on Monday. That is wonderful.
With Stitcher's Guild down, I have been looking at some of the topics on Pattern Review. I will be joining in some of their discussions and will probably continue after Stitcher's Guild comes back online.
As of yesterday, my sewing room became the tool shop for the renovations. There is enough room for me to get in to
The other thing I would like to do is keep track of what I am making/going to make and what I need to purchase in a book. I would like to see if it keeps me on track. I can't say I won't buy anything as I do know I need craft weight interfacing for reusable shopping bags, thread, buttons, and trim. What I want to do is write a list of what I need, how much, and buy only that. I will keep you posted.
Until the next time...................................

The house has been quiet. Our friends who are doing the renovations are ill with colds and the flu (like me). One was back to paint and get the plastic down on the living room floor. I worked on the quilt block for an hour and finished the trees and the Great Lake/St. Lawrence River. I just need to do the lighthouse. I didn't add the parliament buildings which are in Ontario as there is a block dedicated to that building. With Stitcher's Guild down, I have been looking at some of the topics on Pattern Review. Knitting
I haven't done any since I took the second sock of the needles. I am missing my table light so I can see the stitches. Or maybe I have been sick enough, I just can't knit at night. That could be the problem also.Today
I am off work. I see the dietician and do the things as I start 5 days tomorrow.Until the next time...................................

Wardrobe Thoughts
Yesterday was a bit but still cold. This morning is warmer again with it being -12C or 10F at 6 a.m. this morning. It is suppose to be warmer to day with a chance of flurries.
I coughed a lot yesterday and last night I felt like a slug. I sat on the couch with the hot water bottle against by back and a blanket over me. I am feeling a bit better this morning but my voice is raspy.
Myrna wrote the following:
In Anuschka Rees' book - The Curated Closet - she talks about minimalism as a style and says it's all about that little bit of extra intention and making conscious choices. It's about being thoughtful and selective and figuring out what's right for you and your life specifically instead of blindly following trends or the advice of others. Minimalism is not a numbers game. The goal is not to build a wardrobe that is as small as possible but one that is as functional and personalized as possible.
I read those words several times and realize that what we want in our lives is going to be right for us. We love our house to have exactly what we want in it and we are not following trends or the advice of others. It is true for what I want in my wardrobe.
I have been thinking of my wardrobe and here is what I have come up with.

I work and will probably rest when I get home. I want to get over this cold ASAP.

I gathered up the left over fabric from the quilt block and have it ready to go to the store for others to use. I am happy to have it leave the house. Less to store even it if isn't a lot. I am working on having less in my stash.Myrna wrote the following:

- I like my clothes to have clean lines. I do not like dramatic or creative clothing. I feel uncomfortable in them. I like clothes that are casual and have simple lines.
- I like natural fabrics and tend to migrate to them. Of the synthetic fabrics, I will look at Ponte and a few others that breathe.
- My favourite neutral colours are black and navy (denim is included). My other colours include fuchsia, hot pink, blues, blue reds and purples. I will wear pale pink, blue, and, on occasion, pale green.
- I wear a lot of plain vs. print fabrics. I will wear plaids and a few prints if they catch my eye.
- I love having my clothes work together: jeans, vests, tops, and pants that I can mix and match. With that, I feel I can have 11 to 15 pieces that will make a wonderful wardrobe.

I work and will probably rest when I get home. I want to get over this cold ASAP.

Rearing Its Ugly Head
It is a full 4C or 8F warmer this morning. It is -18C or 0F with a wind chill of -26C. Monday is suppose to be -1C or 31F. We will snoopy dance when it arrive.
The guys didn't show up for work today so I expect they are both having a recovery day. Being sick sucks.
The Spousal Unit had his IV immune booster therapy and got to look out a window for 4 hours. Though boring, it is helping him a lot.
Reviewing my goal for the next bit:

Grandson is getting pyjamas for his birthday and I bought the flannel before January 1. I found a lovely grey knit fabric and a pattern for the top yesterday. Now to make them. I have ideas running through my head about setting up a spare kitchen table in the suite's kitchen and using it as a cutting table.Reviewing my goal for the next bit:
- Cut out the second pair of doll jeans
- Work on my quilt block for the store

Nothing done in that department as I felt tired due to the cold. I read a book instead.Today

Feeling Calmer
It is a tad warmer this morning at -22C or -8F. They say it snowing lightly and will start to warm up today. By Monday it is suppose to be near freezing. We will all say about time and then complain about the ice and wet roads.
Day 2 of using the light showed an improvement in my mood. I was more focused and didn't sleep at all in the evening. I will be using it all the time now that I have it in operation again.
With feeling better, I was able to focus, once again, on my eating habits. I have cut out snacks and have been loosing fluid but I will take the 6 pounds that have disappeared from my body. I am working on getting back to where I was before SAD and stress set in. I am finding that getting my SAD under control I am feeling less stressed about the renovations. Still hate the mess but I am not annealing over it. Focusing more on how to decorate so the house is can be cleaned easily and feel calm.

Nothing got done yesterday thought I did buy the iron on vinyl for the last lobster bib. A Very Cold Day
It is cold again this morning. The coolest was at 4 a.m. and the weather website said -23.8C which is the same as yesterday. Tonight is suppose to be cold again and then they say it is suppose to warm up.
I did laundry and remained in the basement. I tried to stay out of the guys' way coming up when called. It made for less stress for me. The first call came when the counter top was put on.
We did play for a few minutes before I headed back down to the basement.
We looked at the backsplash which is going to be nice but kind of disappeared into the green wall.
While we were looking at something on the table, Elliott decided to give his opinion.
I then headed back to the basement, came up for a few minutes about the sink, and then emerged mid afternoon craving sunshine. I got to see this.
Though the dishwasher isn't hooked up, I was so excited that I did dishes in the new sink twice and wiped the cupboards as the Spousal Unit put on the new handles.
I took a look down our hallway with the trim all painted and I love what I see.
It feels so calm to me that I stared at it for quite a while. Only a half circle table with a couple of items on it will reside at the end of the hall.
I was short 4" so that piece will make a raincoat and hat for the dolls. I will get another piece today for the last piece of fabric. The bibs that are done reside on the back part of the clothes rack.
Then I decided to work on the quilt block and got part of it done.
I will be working on it for the next few days off to get it done. Three trees need to be stitched, around the lake, the water and lighthouse done and then Ontario emboidered on. Then I will decide if I need to add something else. It has to be done by the end of January.
Until the next time...........................

Organization Begun
It is cold this morning, the coldest so far this winter. -24C or -11F. It is a long underwear kind of day. And hot soup will be nice. The weather person said it was to be cold before it warmed up but they didn't forecast it to be this cold.
Our bedroom doors are painted and the guest room has been started. The white doors look amazing. They finish the rooms. We did talk about painting the small boxed area above the windows grey so the crown moulding will pop like in the rest of the room.
The son did some plug-ins and heat duct work in the kitchen layout. The kitchen may be usable today even if there are no cupboard doors on the new units. Who cares how it looks. I just want to use the sink and dishwasher.
The Spousal Unit shovelled snow yesterday morning. It was cold with the wind. He came in twice to warm up.
We talked to Daughter-in-Law and Grandson after lunch. Son flew out to Portugal for work and it snowed shortly after he left. She has been snow blowing and keeping the wood fires burning (literally). They have more snow than we do.
I worked on organizing the guest room items. It went really well with little being discarded. I also got the bedding for Grandson's bed put away. I am glad that is done and out of the way.
I charged it and used it this morning. YES!!
I gathered up all the quilting cottons and folded them up. They were sorted into piles and then put into the sewing room closet.
I have a lot of Christmas fabric but I do have plans for it all which will include pillow cases for the beds for Christmas.
After that job was done and I was satisfied, I started on a quilt block. A group of co-workers and I are doing a quilt for Canada's 150th birthday. My block is to represent Ontario.
I am using embroidery thread to outline and do some fill work on the block. The green and cream to the right will be used to embroider Ontario onto the block. Next is to fuse everything down onto the background.
Until the next time..........................

Sewing
My big job was to find my therapy light in the sewing jungle. When I started to organize the quilting cottons, I found it under a pile of fabric destined for grocery bags.I charged it and used it this morning.
Knitting
I cast on the second sock three times and then knit 5 rows of ribbing. It is started so I can work on it daily.Today
We have to go shopping for a few things for the house and groceries. I have laundry to do and want to work on the quilt block. I go back to work tomorrow.Until the next time..........................

Some New Counter Tops
We have had our fair share of snow the past few days. There was about 4" fall in the first go round and a small amount yesterday that seem to go somewhere else with the wind. It piled up on vehicles. Today we are suppose to see the sunshine. Yes!! And colder weather. No!!
The house renovations are slow due to illness. But, the two small counter tops are installed. The long one is here waiting for its turn to be installed.
Taking out the black counter top and installing a light one brightened up the kitchen. I was amazed at the transformation. Once the job was done, Adam left as he wasn't feeling well. He won't be here today but his dad will be to paint or prep for paint. There are three closets and the front entry to do before the living room and kitchen can be tackled.
My goal for the next bit is to:

Lifestyle
I have been working for the past 4 days and have been busy. I did two orders and faxed off 4 from the notions department. I am now doing the iPad order. The store is clean and tidy as it has been slow with all the ugly weather we had for the past two days. Everyone has been staying at home and I don't blame them. The house renovations are slow due to illness. But, the two small counter tops are installed. Sewing
I looked at my sewing stuff, shuttered and walked away. I won't be tackling it today unless I get the guest room stuff sorted quicker than I think. If I do, it will be the cottons that I will focus my mind on.My goal for the next bit is to:
- Cut out the second pair of doll jeans
- Work on my quilt block for the store
- Trace a coat pattern to cut out my February sewing project/challenge to be hung in the store in mid March
- Sort through the cottons and put together like projects for sewing
- Work on the lobster fabric items. I may focus on cutting out all the pieces and sew them up rather than do one item at a time
Knitting
I have spent my evening reading and napping. I do want to set up the second sock today so I can knit on it in the evening. I have been horrible about falling asleep in the evenings but the gloomy grey days have done it to me.Today
I am home and need to work in the basement. I have to find my therapy lamp and charge it up and then move on to sorting through the guest room items and get rid of what we don't need. It is time to let go of more stuff.Until the next time...........................

It was warmer yesterday with a high of -11C or 12F. It felt good to have it warmer than it has been for the past while.
Lifestyle
When we got home from shopping yesterday, the young fellow Adam, our renovator, was busy doing plumbing for the kitchen sink. The lovely sink is sitting on two 2 x 6" boards and waiting for the counter top to arrive next week. The plumbing is complete and ready to go. The other thing that happened was pulling up the linoleum flooring. It was just as we had expected.....hardwood under part of it. It tells us how small our kitchen use to be when it the house was built in 1965.
The new tile flooring will go along the straight part of the flooring and over to the wall. We will loose the hardwood flooring in front of the dishwasher and small fridge. We are okay with that.
While there was noise under the sink, Elliott slept in our bed. As soon as it was quieter, he arrived downstairs to soak up the warmth from the fireplace.
Sewing
I finished the doll jeans and I do like them a lot. They were too big so I had to take in the side seams to get them to fit properly. It is a good thing I put them around the doll when I discovered the waistband was too small. I need to find a button for the waistband so it looks like they have a proper waistband that could close.I will be doing another lobster bib next as this will help me use up the lobster fabric. I am altering between the Doll SWAP and lobster sewing to keep it fun.
Knitting
Sixty rows are knit and I need to cast on the second sock.Today
I work the early shift and will have to deal with whatever when I get home. Maybe nothing as Adam, our carpenter only can load garbage today as he gets his children for the day.Until the next time............................

On Line Again
Though it is clear outside, it is warming up. It is -14C or 7F this morning but it was colder than that a couple of days ago.
Renovations began yesterday. It was a stressful time for me even though I knew we were going to do it.
We went from this sink placement to this set up.
The stress was from worrying if it would all fit along that wall. It did fit with 1.5" to spare. The next stress was about a cabinet above the small fridge. We talked about it for quite a while and it is doable. We have to order in 4 doors and a drawer front to match the other cabinets.
Next on the list was to talk about the crown moulding on the top of the cabinets.
It is coming off and a flat board is going up (valance like under the cabinets to hide the lights). It will match the trim around the windows in the house. That was a stressful discussion as we all had to get our point of view across.
In the end Elliott approved as he liked looking down the holes. Crazy cat.
In the midst of all this discussion, the Spousal Unit announced we will probably put the house up for sale in the spring (what I had said early in December).
I do run the fireplace when sewing in the basement to keep warm.
The doll jeans are cut out and the back pockets put on then removed and redone. Picture of first pocket put on before taking them off.
The dolls love the bling on the pockets. Since then, the front pockets have been added and the center front seam sewn and the faux zipper line sewn down. Hard to see when it is in navy blue thread.
The socks are progressing and 50 rounds are done. Ten more rounds and I start the leg of the second sock.
Until the next time..........................
Lifestyle
We have internet and TV again. I had wires plugged in wrong as I was following cord colours. As we have had trouble with our internet and TV going off while set up prior to renovating, the guy changed our boxes. Instead of three boxes, we now have one. So much easier to handle.Renovations began yesterday. It was a stressful time for me even though I knew we were going to do it.

Sewing is coming along. I have three bibs done but no pictures other than the one with the vinyl on the fabric and the single fold bias tape sewn on.I do run the fireplace when sewing in the basement to keep warm.

It's Cold Again
We are having cold weather again after a good snow fall. The only positive thing has been watching the crescent moon and Venus. I haven't seen Mars but they say it is visible. The downside is I'm cold all the time.
The Spousal Unit had his last visit with the eye surgeon this afternoon. The surgery was a success and he can see the optometrist at the end of the month for glasses. He is thrilled to have this done.
I am back on my diet and am feeling better with my carb count under control. My energy is coming back which is nice. I was tired from trying to get Christmas gifts done and eating too much high carb foods.
I cut out a pair of doll jeans and got the front pockets done. They are done like human jeans. The back pockets have been attached and the rhinestones put on them. They are really cute and I can hardly wait to show them to you.
The socks are progressing well and I have 40 rounds knit. Twenty more rounds and I start sock #2.
I am off work for two more days. We hope to have our internet back tomorrow and I hope to have a post with pictures in it.
Until the next time.............

We are actually surviving with internet on one iPad. We share it during the day to get caught up on our sites. We do miss TV in the evenings though but I am reading books and the Spousal Unit is doing word puzzles. The Spousal Unit had his last visit with the eye surgeon this afternoon. Knitting
I spent time this morning sorting through my yarn. I now have them sorted by weight. Sock weight in one tub, worsted in another and DK in a third. Books, patterns and miscellaneous items are in three tubs. All the tubs are upstairs and in thestand. I was happy to have that job done and it is part of the stash. A few small balls of yarn went into the garbage and a few skeins went into the thrift shop box.The socks are progressing well and I have 40 rounds knit. Twenty more rounds and I start sock #2.
