Out To Watch Soccer

Yesterday was a mix of sun and clouds. It was also very windy. The high got to 17C. This morning it is a mix of sun and cloud and 9C. Today is supposed to be a mix of sun, clouds, and wind. The high is to get to 20C.

Lifestyle

I headed out to get groceries yesterday morning. I decided to do it early to miss the crowds. It wasn't very busy at the grocery store. After getting groceries, I went to see if I could find jalapeño pepper plants and found none.

Once home, I puttered upstairs a bit and then decided to vacuum downstairs. I started in the family room and was surprised at how much fluff there was. Especially where I sit and hand sew. I also think I get thread snippets into the garbage and they somehow miss. I vacuumed every inch of the floor.

I also did the sewing room. I was less surprised at how much fibre fluff there was on the floor. I vacuumed the floor carefully so I got about 90% or more of everything up and then did another pass. I emptied the vacuum cleaner out and was surprised at how much cat hair I am still vacuuming up. I also emptied the garbage cans and took them out to the garage. I was prepared to clean off the cutting table when family called inviting me to go watch grandson play soccer in the city. I accepted.

The game was interesting. The wind was howling from the south. There were times the ball was kicked and it went straight up in the air to land back down near to where it was kicked. Once it landed 4-6 feet behind the player who kicked it. If the ball was kicked with the wind, it would go further than expected. It was a challenge no matter which way you played.

Grandson's team won the game 1-0. The play was great and the player did an awesome job getting the ball into position and putting it in. But, grandson's team was not playing like a team. One player spent a lot of time degrading another player. Two players argued who was going to throw the ball in and the ref had to talk to them about it. Grandson tried to bring his line together to play but they were sporadic about that. I was surprised. The team got one big lecture from the coach after the game. I kept thinking about what I had learned in Sweden and I didn't see a lot of it yesterday. The club needs to work on a lot about conduct with their players.

We had dinner out last night and it was delicious. We talked about the game as grandson inhaled his food. He had played 75% of the game and was starving. He explained some of what he did and why he did it. This young man could be a professional player if he so chose.

Sewing

None done but the floor is vacuumed. I'm ready to clean off the table and start new projects.

Knitting

Though I was tired, I did finish the socks last night. There was very little yarn left which surprised me. You can see the colour difference in the two balls of yarn. But these socks are for me and no one will see the difference when I wear them.

Now to wind another skein into two balls so I can knit more socks.

Thoughts

I did some reflecting on May. It was a rough month for me mentally. I was somewhat depressed and had to push myself to do things. A lot of it was caused by the weather (dull and cold) and some of it was from stress over the economic/political situations in the world. None of it was from physical health though I was sore some of the time. I did lay off watching some of the videos that upset me and moved towards watching videos that made me relax. I also spent some time forcing myself to do things that needed to be done. Putting one foot in front of the other and getting small things done was a good step. I kept up on the mundane chores even when I didn't want to. I went outside on days I could. As the month ended I noticed my mental health was improving.

I was going to plant flowers and vegetables this week but won't be doing that until the weekend. We are to have another hot spell and I'm worried the plants will die from the heat. I will look after them in the garage in the meantime. I am thinking that I will not plant as much in the vegetable boxes this summer. What I will plant, I will do this week. I need to get a hose out of the shed so I can water the boxes during the hot spell. We also could have a touch of frost Tuesday night. I'll be out covering the plants once again.

I have started a list of things I need to cut out to sew this month. I know I will be sewing on the hot afternoons as I will be staying inside. I am also working on a list of things I need to do in the mornings when it is cool. Some will be outside jobs and others inside. I am also back to eating healthy and am trying to loose the weight I put on. It has been hard getting back into the groove of eating healthy but I started out with no snacking and now am working on portion control.

Today

I need to do finish yesterday's plan. I have to do the balance sheet, tidy up the cutting table, wind yarn for the next socks I want to knit and find a pattern to knit for the dolls. I need to finish the rabbit and do some hand sewing. I hope to set up the socks tonight and start the doll's pattern.

Until the next time.................................................................
