A Quilt Is Planned

Yesterday was another lovely sunny day with a high of 26C. This morning it is cloudy (red sun) and 11C. Today is supposed to be mainly sunny with a high of 28C.

Lifestyle

I headed out to New Minas yesterday morning to get fabric and more plants. I was home just after 12 noon. It was an uneventful trip though New Minas's main road was really busy.

The quilt shop was empty when I arrived and everyone wanted to help me. Walmart wasn't very busy also. The plant center had a few people in it and inside wasn't very busy either. I got what I needed and left.

At home, I had lunch and rested a bit before sewing. I was doing a lot of thinking about where I am to go on my eating journey. I am now at portion control which means measuring food. I am trying to make all my meals from scratch and freeze some as most recipes make a lot. I am also trying to move more. I am hoping this will let the weight I gained disappear.

Sewing

I decided to sew the smaller flying geese blocks using the heart method. What a disaster. I got enough blocks to make one of the blocks. The rest were tossed into the trash. I really don't know what happened but I certainly am not going to be using that method again for the small blocks.

I spent a lot of time making sure that the blocks were positioned correctly so each part was the right measurement.

The blocks I made using the Eleanor Burn method were easy to make. They are reversed but will be used.

I have to make 4 more of the small ones and I will be putting this project away. It is figured out and I will work on it later.

While at the quilt shop, I did buy more of the strawberry fabric for the doll's quilt. It is laundered ready for me to work on when I have time.

I also bought .5 meter of these two fabrics. I will be using them in the purple bag I am hand sewing lace onto.

My big purchase was for a quilt I have to make. Daughter sent me a panel that I am not allowed to cut up. I have thought about a design for it for a couple of months. It had to have flying geese in it. The fabrics were chosen yesterday and I can proceed with it.

The rust and the blue are for the geese and the brown is for a background fabric.

I am only going to make this part of the block I made yesterday.

I will be making a pyramid starting with one block, then 3, 5, and 7. I will cut strips of the dark fabric to make it the width of the panel. I have two of these to make to put on the top and the bottom. Doing only one block will allow me to cut out what I need from strips and then sew the blocks up. All can be laid on the floor to see the progress. The block I made for the doll's quilt is too large for this panel and would be the focus which is not what I wanted.

I got one more letter picked out from the embroidery so am making progress on that.

Knitting

I did knit last night and am almost done the body. I have to do the seed stitch border at the bottom and then cast off. I will take a picture of it when I get it cast off and before I pick up the sleeve stitches.

The yarn for the next sock is out and ready to wind when I have a bit of time. Maybe today.

Thoughts

I am progressing on getting back into the groove to loose weight. I am trying hard to loose what I gained. I know some of it was trying to include "trigger" foods into my diet and some was eating as I was stressed, tired, and a bit depressed. I am feeling much better and mentally am ready to loose what I gained. I am getting back into my old routine once again.

I bought a lot of fabric yesterday and now need to sew it all up. The quilt will be donated to a festival so it is priority. I have to launder and starch the fabric and get busy cutting and sewing it. I am not sure if it will be ready for the festival this year but I am going to try and get it done for then.

My plants are starting to get root bound and I need to plant them outside. Most will need tents to protect them from the sun. We go from frost warnings to overly warm temperatures in a day. It is the craziest spring I have ever witnessed.

Today

I am out this morning for a hair cut and then home to start planting flowers at the shed. I will tent them with blankets so they aren't in the full hot sun this afternoon. I am hoping to launder and starch the quilt fabric this afternoon while the house is being power washed. I also need to press some starched fabric so it is ready to make another quilt. Tonight I will knit on the doll's coat.

Until the next time.........................................................................
