2021 Monthly To Do List

2020 was quite the year for all of us. It was full of ups and downs but I did sew.

We do not know what 2021 will bring but I will continue to be in the sewing room. I'm going to change my focus from Explore to A Year of Sewing What I Have. Thanks to a friend who thought this idea up.

I will be recording my inventory as I sew. I would love to see more bare spaces and empty tubs.

Yearly Goals

  • To sew down the stash more this year again. What I be buying will be needed to finish very specific projects.

  • To sew more of what I want and do less mindless sewing. Ideas are evolving which include:
    • Sewing for the dolls.

    • Purses/bags.

    • Piping for daughter.

    • Christmas sewing. One item per month (24-26th)

    • Machine embroidery. When making embroidered baskets, I will allow myself to buy the fabric as I have no inventory for them.

  • To test stitch more stitches on my machine.

  • To finish the couture sewing course for dolls.

  • To draft one doll pattern.

  • To sew for the fall fair even if it gets put into a tub for another year. (Update - only if it fits into my plan)

Fabric Out Of the Stash 2021

January - 7.5 meters. I did buy 1.5 meters of fabric and fusible fleece.

February - 9.35 meters. I did buy 1 meter of fabric and interfacing.

March - 7 meters and 30 meters for donation. I did buy 2 meters of fabric and 3.8 meters of interfacing.

April - 5.85 meters and I bought just over 4 meters before lockdown started again.

May - 5.4 meters. No fabric was bought due to the lockdown. I didn't miss buying any.

June -  5.75 meters. Two fat quarters of fabric was bought.

Year to Date - 37.3 meters sewn and 12.5 meters bought. Most of the 12.5 meters is sewn. I think it is 1.5 meters that I haven't sewn to date.

July - 2.85 meters sewn and no fabric bought.

August - 8.35 meters sewn and 1.3 meters bought. The 1.3 meters was sewn up into the hot pads I made.

September - 7.65 meters sewn and 1.2 meters bought. I used .6 meters in a test pattern and the rest will become another outfit.

Year to Date - 54 meters sewn and 15 meters bought. Of the 15 meters bought, I have 2.1 meters on the shelf. It will get sewn.

October - 10.5 meters sewn and 9.5 meters bought. I've sewn 1.5 meters of the fabric bought and 4 meters will be sewn in November. Some fabric was bought as the Fabricville near us is closing its doors. Broadcloth as I use a lot of it.

November - 2.5 meters sewn and 3 meters bought for a Christmas gift.

December - 5.9 meters sewn and 4 meters bought for quilts.

Total Fabric Sewn - 72.4 meters

Total Fabric Bought - 31.5 meters

Year End

I am happy with what I accomplished this year. I kept the purchases of fabric to the least amount ever. I didn't sew as much as I normally do but I'm fine with that as most of the fabric came out of the stash and most of what I bought was sewn up. What is left will be gone this year as it has a project attached to it and are gifts for 2022.

December

November was a slow month for sewing. Elliott was sick and took up almost half of the month either being at the vet or monitored until he was his usual self. The list this month is small as I am getting ready to clean the sewing room starting as soon as the sewing is done.

November

October was a successful month as most of the fabric sewn was taken from the stash. I was amazed at how I dug into the fabrics and found what I wanted for the projects. The list this month is smaller as I will be pulling fabrics from the stash to sew if I have nothing else to do.

I had a successful month even if I did test 2 patterns and proof read one by one of my favorite designers. The sewing room has been kept clean and I'm enjoying the process of sewing a variety of items from the stash. I've kept the list small this month and will add to it.

September

August was a better month once I made some decisions.

Testing is only 1 item per month and I gave myself permission to use the fabric in the stash not for what it was bought for but for what ever I want to make out of it. It not only sparked my creativity, it made me start cleaning the sewing room.

June was a better month for me. I was tired due to the vaccine but got over it eventually. I spent more time outside doing things which helped my mental state. I had a wonderful thinking time in the sewing room and my July projects are planned. There will be some fabric purchased this month. I bought nothing in June.

June

May was not an easy month. We both suffered from depression especially when the weather was bad. I did keep sewing but the projects were small and time consuming. I also did some free motion quilting practices. As the weather improved so did my outlook on life and I tackled the placemats. This month I'm grasping at straws as what to make but I need to do a larger project that got put off to one side.

May

April ended up being a bit of a rough month for me mentally. Though I wanted the lockdown, the variants of the virus are scaring me. I have had my first vaccine but still worry about getting the virus, being sick, and passing it on to others. I'm slugging on trying to keep positive by playing in the sewing room. In the end, April sewing was more about small amounts of fabric. This month, I'd like to do a larger project.

Sewing

  • Test pattern for dolls. It is a Regency era dress. (Done May 7, 2020)

  • Doll's t-shirts and capris - Done May 3, 2021. Fabric count in April.
