The Mail Arrived

Happy Saint Patrick’s Day

I moved the post where I talked about Goal One to here. Better to have it in the right place.

Here is what the mail brought on Friday. I got three parcels!!

The first parcel was three patterns I ordered from BMV when they had a good sale.

I want to make all three of these patterns up in the fall. The Vogue jacket will be the short version. Dixie at With Needle and Brush made it up and I really liked it. The Butterick pattern will have the blue vest and jacket made and the McCalls is the one I made for Miss Rodeo Canada and I love it enough to make myself one. Two of the three jackets have princess lines for a nice fit.

In the second package, I got fabric I ordered from Hong Kong. The black and the white are cotton silk for linings and the bone coloured is silk organza.

The third parcel was from Amazon and a book I ordered. I have a great respect for Lynda Maynard and bought this book to help me with couture sewing. I am wanting to start doing more of our clothes this way.

In this book she shows many wonderful techniques and the first one I am going to do is add grosgrain ribbon to the inside neckband of a shirt I am starting. I will do it in plain pink to match the shirt as I don’t want anything jarring. But it will add an element of fun to it.

I have compared how Sandra Betzina and Ron Collins fit to Lynda Maynard and there are a lot of similarities. I know I will be using all the techniques when adjusting patterns for fit. I really like how Lynda Maynard has you work with the grain when fitting a muslin on a person.

I worked on the vest yesterday and got all the crystals on except where the sides meet. They will be done after the vest is sewn together.

I have been asked to make a vest (pattern not chosen yet) out of this fabric.

Today I am off to the city to take a seminar on bare root plants, get some material from Fabricland, buy some groceries, and come home. It is going to be a longer day as most places don’t open until noon. The seminar is at 10 a.m. and then I will get groceries so I can do the other stores after lunch.

Until tomorrow…………….
