It was cold Tuesday morning –20C with a wind chill of –33C. But, it is colder this morning –23C with a wind chill of –33C and a severe wind chill warning. The arctic flow is causing this cold weather of which the last cold spell we had was in 2008. Supposedly one more cold day and then warming up.
First thing yesterday morning I worked on the drapes using the tutorial I found the day before. I did do a few things differently though. I cut each of the three pieces 20” long x the width of the fabric. I cut off the selvage and checked to make sure the wasn’t a top and a bottom to the fabric. Good thing I did, there was and it was subtle. After I sewed the 3 pieces together, I serged the seams to give a nice finish. I then folded the sides in so they were double folded and stitched them down. After that, I didn’t really follow the directions. I serged the top and folded it down 3” and stitched it in place close to the serged edge. Then I stitched 2” down from the top as my rod is only 7/16” across and will fit in a 1” opening. I then serged the bottom edge, folded it up 2” and stitched it in place. Pressed well and hung it up with the Spousal Units help.
I have 1/2 meter of the fabric left to make a table runner for the white dresser. Then I can get the pictures up on the walls and a couple of shelves for some of my knick knacks. Next on my list – I am going to make another crayon tote. I need a craft fix and something to work on while I stay inside. Might just as well do something for the craft bazaar tub.
I was up to see my hairdresser yesterday as I really needed a hair cut. She and I were talking away about sewing and we are going to do a booth or two together selling crafts this coming fall. Perfect for both of us. I have the booth request in for near the entrance so people will look coming and going.
The rest of the day was spent folding paper in half so they can be put into grocery bags and mail boxes. The Spousal Unit helped. I did over 600 sheets and he did 200. Monday night I did 800 sheets and he did 200. Not grumbling as that is 400 sheets I didn’t have to fold. They are delivered. Next is to purchase prizes. We are doing 6 days of Family Literacy next week; fun but a lot of work when you have to do most of it yourself.
Betsy and Elizabeth, I use your method to sew on buttons and I still can get them out of alignment, especially if my mind wanders. I just don’t like to put on buttons and I think they hate me too. I will persevere though and not let my mind wander.
I also worked on the dratted table cloth last night and almost got the dark blue thread done on the one design. Tonight I do hope to finish all the blue stitching – dark and light and start the outline stitch.
Joyce, I don’t count calories but watch what I eat. I tend to eat only protein (eggs and turkey bacon) for breakfast, ham and cheese on whole grain bread for lunch and a mix of meat and veggies and canned fruit for dinner. If I have to have a snack at night, I eat a piece of cheese. I try not to snack between meals and I know people do have two a day but it doesn’t always work for me. Snacks can be a trigger for me to want to eat more. I try to drink 8 cups of fluids a day. Exercise is walking though I must start on some ball exercises soon. I really want to loose my excess weight and feel better; some of my joints hurt because of my weight. Plus I have problems with my back from standing on cement floors for 12 years when teaching. Loosing weight helps it though I know it will ache if I over do the exercises.
Until tomorrow...................

lovely looking sewing room - and your window topper looks very nice.
just got back from my daughter's house where she cooked me dinner - in truth I would rather have stayed at home and cooked something healthy - but I reduced her portion she served by half (she knows I am dieting) and didn't do too much damage (I hope).
keep warm.
