Monday morning started off slow and turned into a rush. I don’t know why it turned into a rush; probably just me pushing ahead. I finished the embroidery on the second sleeve before breakfast. By 9:40 a.m. I had the shirt finished and ready for a quick laundering. I have to wait for the crystals to arrive to finish it.
The crystals are Siam red and I will be putting about 720 of them on this top.
While the embroidery was finishing up, I sewed the rest of the interfacing onto the purse. I am going to work on it slowly as I need to think about each step. I have never made a purse like this before and want to have a positive experience.
So my next project is been sewn with black thread. I decided on this fabric with a black satin underlay.
This lace shimmers and I will put sparkly clear crystals on it. It will be an easy top to sew up as there is no waiting for embroidery. It didn’t take long to lay out the satin and lace and cut it out. In actual fact, I got one of the back pieces done.
When I overlay fabrics (lace on satin, saris on twill), I stitch it in place with a longer stitch length and 1/4” from the edge. I can then treat it as one piece of fabric. I hope to get quite a bit done on it today.
I am thinking about making garment bags for the gowns I make. I found this free pattern and will give it a try. I can make them the length I need as the purchased ones are too short. The bonus – I can use up some of my dark broadcloth. These garment bags won’t be cheap – they will cost about what I pay for the ones I buy. Buying long zippers is going to be costly part. I am going to have to buy them when they go on sale for 50% off. I will make one and cost it out. I will only get 20% off on the price of the zipper for the first one as they aren’t on sale.
I was at the first Family Literacy activity last night and it was fun. I got to visit with some of the people I taught in kindergarten and grade one. They are all grown up with children of their own. Tonight I will be heading out for the next activity. I know I will be tired by the end of the week. I don’t do evenings very often with my sleep issues. But I do know getting people out and doing these activities helps them learn more about literacy and it helps me get a feel of what our community is doing.
Until tomorrow.........................

your embroidered shirt is looking beautiful and the purple lace looking interesting so will be keen to see it made up.
Thanks for the link on the garment bag - quite fancy making one of these.
enjoy your class tonight.
wow that embroidered shirt is beautiful!
about the zippers for garment bags-have you considered duvet zippers from Fabricland? I have used them a few time when I need a longer zipper and they are only about $3 or so I think.
