Less Stress = Happy Person

Yesterday’s post was late as, it seems, I can’t tell the difference between AM and PM. How silly can I be. LOL

Yesterday was to the city for an appointment with the respiratory therapist re: sleep apnea.  I have had a CPAP machine for a year and it was the annual visit. The machine is working for me as my apenas are very low; less than one per hour on the average. I know I have other sleep issues, which I thought surfaced from getting my machine. But after a lot of time spent thinking and writing in a journal, I know what triggers those sleep issues; stress. It is good to know what triggers this and what doesn’t. As my stress level has declined, my sleep habits have gotten better; the information diagrams show that.

I also have SADs. It affects me worse in the winter than the summer. Though we live in a desert and have lots of sunshine, we also live far enough north that we don’t get enough Vit. D to ward off SADs. Many studies have been done on this topic where we use to live. I decided I am buying the blue light to shine on me daily in the mornings when I read blogs and catch up on things. I can use it for 6 to 7 months of the year and more if I can’t get outside. But I want to be outside more all year round.

While in the city, I went to Fabricland to get royal blue buttons for the blue shirt. I snooped around at the sales and found some great bargains. I was only buying fabric on sale for 65 to 70% off and got some fabulous bargains.

  • A tiny check poly/cotton 60” wide for 2.40/meter (reg. 8.00/m). I got enough to make 2 shirts for the Spousal Unit. I also bought a cotton for the same price to do some designer features on these shirts.

  • Poly cotton blend denim fabric – black with a gray stripe 60” wide for 2.40 meters (reg. 8.00/m). Bought enough for jeans and maybe walking shorts for me. This fabric has no stretch.

  • Xmas fabric 45” wide at 7.70/meter for Xmas gift bags I want to make (reg. 21.00/m). The top part of the bag I bought plain cotton for 6.00/meter (reg. 10.00/m –worst savings).

    001
  • White chambray 60”wide for 4.80/meter for a shirt for me (reg. 16.00/m).
  • White rayon, polyester, with spandex 60” wide  6.00/meter for a shirt for me (reg. 20.00/m).

I was happy with my selection as I focused on us and not on clients.

My goal for sewing less for clients has a good choice for me; I was able to attain it quickly. I have one person who coaches rodeo queens plus a second person for who needs a wardrobe by June 2013. After 2013, I will decide what I will be doing about clients. I will probably keep the one client and no one else. Daughter is working on her rental wardrobe and can take all of my extra clothing if she wants it; there will be 12 outfits. We can come to an arrangement on how she will purchase them. I am not going to stress over any of it.

The white shirt – the yoke was approved quickly. That means I can start topstitching it – two rows so it will look like this.

It will be fun to do focus on a detail – top stitching and a technique – collar and collar band without worrying about matching plaids or doing embroidery.

The dratted tablecloth – I finished the medium blue on that design. I will work on the dark and light blue now and then finish up the flowers and outlining. It is coming along and when this design is done, one end of the table cloth will be finished.

I didn’t walk laps yesterday as I was in the city. I did park as far from the stores as I could and walked to and from them briskly. I will get out and walk 13 laps today though. I really enjoy doing them and being outside. I really forgot that with so much client sewing.

Today Shannon from Hungry Zombie Couture showed how she kept track of her fabric on an Excel worksheet. I am not sure if I will do that as I have a relatively small stash of fabrics for me and DH. Even my rodeo queen fabric stash is small. But I bit the bullet and did it for yesterday’s purchase with four tabs for each of my stashes. I might add my other fabrics but I won’t be filling in all the blanks. I could do it if I put my mind to it but that would mean going into Fabricland and costing it out. Not sure it is worth it at this time.

Until tomorrow...................

Ann it seems like you are getting into a real positive year for yourself - good on you. The fabrics you purchased are lovely (like the Xmas stuff). Good fun we are keeping each other motivated with our exercise and diet. I did have one slice of toast this morning and the bread was the best I have ever made, but next week Mike is travelling so no bread for me - lots WW recipes and exercise.

Off to look at the HZ's spreadsheet

have a good weekend
