A Fun Sewing Day

Another cold day under our belt. The wind has died down to just a draft until last evening when it started blowing again. I like calmness when the temperatures dip low; you can get outside without feeling chilled to the bone. Though we did have a wind chill warning in effect, it was cancelled with the calm weather.

I headed down to my sewing room prior to breakfast yesterday morning and worked at folding more fabric. It sadden me that I have such a large stash of rodeo queen fabric and I am moving away from doing a lot of it. Then it hit me; I will make items for rent, which I hadn’t planned on doing. Daughter can store them at her house so she has easy access to them to rent. If I get paid one rental to pay for the cost of the fabric and notions, I will be happy. I can do some of the fabrics I love up into items I really like and do some of the styles I really want to do. I can fit them into my schedule. I got my fabrics in one closet all folded and on the shelves.

So, while I was folding fabric and looking for fabric to make my next crayon tote, I thought out what I was going to sew for a rodeo queen. It will have embroidery on it and can stitch out while I do other things. The white faux suede with red embroidery would be perfect to start with. So, once I got a few things done, I cut out the top and began the embroidery only to finish one side by mid afternoon. The stitch out was giving me a few problems and left me a bit frustrated.

The blue stitching is the neckline and the tailor’s tacks are for the darts. I put a row of crystals around the cream centers of the Gerber daisies as the red stitching shows through the cream thread. Personally, I like it.

The front was finished just before dinner time; thank goodness we were having stew. Ignore the darts as I pinned them in to stitch today. The sleeves are to be stitched today. I need a zipper before I can finish sewing this top.

The crayon tote was finished by noon. It does not have a second colour fabric as I have lots of this colour and nothing in light blue heavy enough for the pocket and straps. Some little girl will love it as it is.

The next project I am going to work on is a messenger bag. The pattern is Butterick 5964 and this purse will be made out of black faux suede. I am not sure where I am going with it as I only have a piece of leather that is 12 x 12” square. I will figure out something even if it is only leather on the flap. I can layer faux suede on top of faux suede and do coppery brown top stitching.
