The weather is changing in our neck of the woods. We had a snowfall warning in effect and the temperatures are rising to +3C for today. Such is the weather in the area we live in. Or maybe I should say province as the temperatures are suppose to be warm all over; even in the north where it usually is cold at this time of the year.
I have been thinking about the items I want to make for the Christmas Craft Bazaar I have signed up for in late November. I am going to continue making the crayon totes for children in both the styles I have. I need a project to work on in between times though. So I went to the bin I am trying to empty and hauled out this project.
I have enough to make three of these. I can make one for Daughter for this Christmas and the other two for sale. The remaining fabric can be made into crayon totes and maybe a notepad holder.
I set about making one as I have all the materials. I did the tracing which didn’t take too long. I cut out the excess Steam-A-Seam as instructed.
I then fused it onto ultra suede and cut it out. That was the most difficult part as it is hard to cut when it flops around.
Pressed on with fusible fleece on the back and ready to be backed and bound. This has been a fun project.
The white top has the second sleeve sitting on the embroidery machine waiting for another spool of red thread. I ran out half way through the sleeve. I played with the one sleeve as I want to put iron-on crystals around the cuff.
and up close
By mid afternoon I had the sleeve, collar, and hem done.
And the wall hanging is ready to hand stitch the binding down. I stayed down in the basement as a friend who does boarding and painting for a living suggested I do. Easier on both of us if I come up when called to help.
I was asked if I trace all my patterns and the answer is yes. I use a medium weight pellon called Trace-A-Pattern. I lay it over top of the pattern and trace it with a fine nib pen. It goes quickly unless you are doing a project that has a lot of pieces. As most of the patterns I buy are multi sized, I end up with several different sized patterns from that one pattern. It also allows me to franken pattern if needed. If I hate the pattern, it is in one piece folded neatly into the envelope, ready to be taken down to the thrift shop. I buy the Trace A Pattern from Fabricland when it is 50% off. The last time I did that, I bought 30 meters of it – a full roll. Lovely to have on hand.
Daughter came over on yesterday afternoon to sew but her female Brittney had thrown up in the truck and again on the floor of the sewing room. She took the dog to the vet who had to perform emergency surgery. Nothing in her stomach but her liver and intestines are inflamed. She came home last night but needs to return to the vet daily for antibiotics.
Next week is Family Literacy Week and I have lots to do in the evenings. I hope to be able to sew for a few hours each day. Except for Wednesday when I have a 6 hour meeting and then out for 2 hours at night. I will be glad when it is over and behind me.
Until tomorrow............................
